Setting the theme with entertainment

Sometimes determining the theme for an event can be a challenge. There are a multitude of themes, color schemes, trends, and hot topics out there. Which one best fits your client? It can feel like it’s all been done before, or has it? Discussions with the client will determine their ambitions, objectives and intentions. If they are undecided or have a clear-cut idea and you seem at an impasse – consider the entertainment, the music or is there a particular song they relate to? Imagine the possibilities and let it inspire and guide you.

In this case – the entertainment headliner was Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. Well known for their hit song “Thrift Shop”. The song allowed for a multitude of creative juices flowing, just think of the possibilities!

Starting with a blank space - it was completely transformed into a vintage environment that was fresh, fun and full of excitement. Every aspect of the event embraced the Thrift Shop vibe.

From an eclectic mix of vintage and flea market finds to movie props and custom pieces, every component had to be hand selected and designed with purpose. Creating the perfect the Thrift Shop Chic experience. The key was to create a cohesive look while using an array of different elements. Cozy and comfortable vignettes were created and set on raw hardwood floors; the walls were custom brick panels. The brick wall was used as a unique approach to skip the traditional draping route. It worked as

a textured framework that allowed the showcasing of retro photos, mirrors and authentic art.

Floral accents were brightly colored bunches of daffodils, anemones, tulips, orchids, and ranunculus that added even more funk to the overall look. Arrangements were featured in bright ceramic, glass and found object vases, like tins cans and jars. The floral designs were mirrored in the statement French cotton floral installations for the wall behind the DJ. This vibrant detail offered a soft touch to off-sett the more masculine walls and flooring.

The unique vignettes served as seating for the guests. Each told a different story, yet they flowed seamlessly from one, to the next through the aesthetics of color, style and dimension. All were memorable with elements of warm-neutral tones, but unique with unexpected pops of bright, energetic color that added layers of visual interest.

Outdoors seating consisted of dozens of high and low tables, colorful chairs with a dash of kitschy – offering ample seating for guests to chow down, mingle and relish the evening.

To encourage guest to embrace the thrift store vibe, a pop-up store was filled with vintage wardrobe choices was set and ready for guests to “pop some tags” and dressup for the event. The store was open a day before and the morning of the event to facilitate the process.

Inspiration comes in many forms. Look for it everywhere. Be open to consider new possibilities and embrace the challenge to do something different and spectacular. The next industry trend is out there ready to be discovered, let it begin with you.
